Breast Implants Linked With Suicide

A recent study at Vanderbilt University found that women who get cosmetic breast implants are 3 times more likely to commit suicide than women who do not. I am assuming that “cosmetic breast implants” refer to people who are receiving a breast enlargement and not implants for some other medical reason.
The study had some other interesting findings, these same women with breast implants are more likely to die from smoking, drug or alcohol abuse than women who do not have breast implants. It is definitely worth the read.
The problem with the study is that it assumes the women started out a little crazy. But women who get breast implants are very likely to develop complications, sometimes so severe that it results in disfigurement and chronic illness. They can’t work, can’t take care of their families, and are pushed to bankrupcty as they try to pay for treatment. The study doesn’t look at what physical condition the women were in at all. Undegoing any tyoe of surgery, even if it is too enhance oneself cosmetically, can be a traumatic event. Perhaps there is some PSD going on here.
