Another Credit Card Program Bites The Dust

Chase just announced this morning that they will be “pausing indefinitely” their credit card affiliate program. This is pretty big news considering it is coming on the heels of American Express announcing the cancellation of its business card affiliate program.
This is pretty interesting because it is leaving affiliates with less cards to promote, not to mention wondering what company will pull their products next. Capital One? Citi? If another major issuer leaves the market, credit card affiliates could take a huge hit, even more so than they have been seeing over the last 3 months.

This is why I laugh when I hear affiliates who act like the current state of the economy will have no effect on them at all. When advertisers cut out affiliate programs and advertising budgets it will leave less and less options for affiliates to promote and smaller margins. While the option to promote any industry we choose and change it at will gives us an advantage it’s foolish to think we will remain completely unaffected by what’s going on right now economically.
Do they have reason for cutting the program? Are they just trying to save money or are they experiencing problems with bad leads etc?
They didn’t publicly give a reason, but I have to assume it is because they are trying to cut costs due to the economy
